BADMINTON England mourns Chairman Mike Sertin 11 March 2010 It is with great sadness that Badminton Europe has received the following notice from BADMINTON England. It is with great sadness that BADMINTON England today announces the sudden death of its chairman, Mike Sertin. BADMINTON England Chief Executive Adrian Christy said: "It is a terrible shock, made worse by the fact that it comes right in the middle of the Yonex All England 100th Championships, an event in which Mike has been such a driving force. Communiqué 01 March 2010 Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA) had its AGM on Monday 22 February 2010 in Kampala, Uganda. During the AGM Mr Larry Keys resigned as President of BCA and as African Vice President of Badminton World Federation (BWF). Kabir Badamasuiy (NGR) was appointed as Acting BCA President and nominated Raj Gaya (MRI) to BWF for appointment as Acting BWF Vice President for Africa. These two appointments are up to the next year BCA AGM where elections will be held for these positions. With the present situation, there has been some interim re-shuffle in the different positions on BCA Council, the members and the different positions they are occupying are as follows:

Death Announcement We regret to announce the sudden passing away of our friend Jean Marie BAZIMANA President of Burundi Badminton Federation. Jean Marie was among the pioneers who introduced badminton in Burundi at the beginning of this century and latter in 2006 got Burundi to join BWF & BCA. Badminton was progressing well in Burundi and last Sept they successfully organised their first Olympic Solidarity Course in Badminton. We thank our friend Jean Marie for all the good work he has done for badminton and present the sympathy of the badminton community to his family and to all the friends of badminton in Burundi. Jean Marie était parmi les pionniers qui ont introduit le badminton au Burundi au début de ce siècle et après en 2006 il entreprit les démarches pour affilier le Burundi à la BWF & BCA. BWF Annual General Meeting 2009 - Kang retains seat, Paisan is deputy Sunday, May 10, 2009 The Badminton World Federation (BWF) annual general meeting in Guangzhou, China today re-elected Dr Kang Young Joong as its president for a new four-year term Attended by 131 Member Associations, Kang, from Korea, polled 162 votes to defeat challenger Dato’ Seri Andrew Kam Tai Yeow of Malaysia who garnered 70 votes. “For the past four years only my passion and love for the sport has sustained me and I would like to record my gratitude to the membership for giving me the mandate to serve them for another four years,” said Kang who will serve for the 2009-2013 term. “The message from the membership is clear and my colleagues and I will continue our efforts to promote, improve and elevate badminton to greater heights. “Development is one area that we want to focus on and we need to look at how to serve the developing and yet to be developed nations better.” The BWF membership also gave a resounding support to Paisan Rangsikitpho who clinched the No 2 post at the expense of Australia’s Robin Bryant, a former Vice President of the Federation. Gregory Veerpoorten of Belgium was elected as Vice President (Olympic Relations) while, under the new BWF constitution, another five Vice Presidents were each elected from the five continents of Africa, Asia, Europe, Pan Am and Oceania. They are Larry Keys (Badminton Africa Confederation), Vishwa Kumar Verma (Badminton Asia Confederation), Torsten Berg (Badminton Europe), Gustavo Salazar (Pan Am) and Nigel Skelt (Badminton Oceania). Defending Champions go down fighting The curtains came down on the Africa Badminton Championships TEAM EVENTS today 20th April 2009 at the Moi Sports Complex Kasarani. Seychelles qualified for the finals this afternoon after beating Egypt 3-0. Seychelles who are the defending champions started their bid by winning the Men Singles, Women Singles and Mixed Doubles to wrap it up and book a place in the Finals. In the other Semi Finals South Africa who were the runners up last year beat Mauritius 3-1 to qualify for the finals. Click here for more news and images. | ||

Nairobi, Kenya ![]() Naomi Kemunto of Kenya in a game against Botswana The All Africa Senior Badminton Championships 2009 got off to a flying start in Nairobi, Kenya. The hosts Kenya started their campaign on a winning note beating Botswana, winning all the matches in the tie, 5-0. The Men's singles and the mixed doubles were closely contested, Kenya players being pushed to a third set to decide the match. Kenya International and All Africa Senior Badminton Championships 2009 All roads lead to the Moi International Sports Centre in Nairobi as
Kenya becomes the next focus of badminton activity in this part of the
world. Nairobi is due to host the All Africa Senior Badminton Championships 2009 from 18th -
23rd April 2009 which will be followed by the Yonex Kenya International from
24th - 26th April at the same venue. |



All roads lead to the Moi International Sports Centre in Nairobi as
